The Hand
Made by hand in Marrakech, the Aya brings leather panels together through cutting and stitching. The pale thread makes each join visible: a line around the top, a boundary along the sides, a rhythm across the orange surface. The construction is not hidden beneath decoration. It is part of what you see.
Look closely at the meeting of leather and thread. Small differences in stitch spacing, surface grain, and the softness of an edge give a handmade piece its particular presence. They invite attention without requiring a symbolic interpretation or a story assigned to an unnamed maker.
Collector’s Note
What interests us in this Aya is the balance between a defined outline and a yielding surface. The square gives the colour a boundary; the leather softens it. Orange becomes a volume within the room, rather than a theme the room must follow.
Beside a quiet chair, its stitched panels remain readable. Against pale textiles or darker timber, it can introduce warmth without asking for a matching collection of accents. Its place should still be earned through use, with room around it and the selected filling suited to its purpose.
A clear outline. A visible hand. Warmth held in a square.
