The Hands Behind LSSAN
The Hands
Behind LSSAN
Every LSSAN bag passes through the hands of at least three craftspeople before it reaches you. This is their work. This is their story.
Ayyachi
Hand-Tooling & Leather EmbossingAyyachi learned the craft from his father in the medina of Tetouan, where the family workshop has operated for over sixty years. He works exclusively with vegetable-tanned leather, pressing each motif by hand using traditional metal stamps inherited from his grandfather.
No two impressions are identical — the depth and angle of each mark is a decision made in the moment, guided by decades of muscle memory.
“The leather remembers every touch. That is why a handmade bag carries something a machine never can.”
Fatima C
Thread Embroidery on LeatherFatima specialises in the vibrant thread embroidery that gives the LSSAN Embroidered series its distinctive character. Working from her atelier in the old medina, she selects each thread colour by hand and stitches the geometric patterns directly onto the tooled leather surface.
The technique — a fusion of Andalusian and Moroccan needlework — has been practised in Tetouan since the 15th century.
“Every colour I choose tells part of the story. The bag is not finished until it speaks.”
Ayoub El
Construction, Whipstitching & FinishingAyoub El is responsible for the architecture of every LSSAN bag — the cutting, shaping, assembly and the signature whipstitch edge that runs along each piece. Trained in the saddlery tradition of northern Morocco, he works with a precision that comes only from decades of repetition.
He considers the tassel the final signature: the last thing he adds, and the first thing people touch.
“A bag must hold its shape for years. I build it as if it will outlast me.”
One medina.
One thousand years
of craft.
Every LSSAN bag is made in Tetouan — a UNESCO World Heritage city where the traditions of Andalusian and Moroccan craftsmanship have been kept alive for centuries. When you carry an LSSAN bag, you carry that history with you.
