The line never breaks.

It only changes colour.

Three horizontal fields — ivory, cobalt, ivory — crossed by a continuous grid of large Amazigh lozenges traced in fine dark lines. The lozenges do not stop at the colour boundary. They pass through it, as if the blue were simply weather, and the line were something older.

Izri — The Unbroken Line

In Amazigh oral tradition, an izri (ⵉⵣⵔⵉ) is a short poetic form — one verse calling for another, each line echoing the next. No izri stands alone. The form is built on continuation: what begins must be answered.

This rug is built the same way. The lozenge grid crosses the ivory field, enters the cobalt without pause, and emerges again into ivory below — as if the blue were simply a passage, and the line were something that predates colour itself.

The Rug

Hand-knotted in the High Atlas, Morocco, in the Beni Ourain tradition. The composition: three horizontal fields — ivory, cobalt, ivory — traversed by a continuous grid of large lozenges in fine dark lines. The cobalt — deep, saturated, close to Klein, close to Majorelle, close to the sky above the Atlas at dusk — occupies the heart of the composition. Natural ivory wool fringe finishes the lower edge.

100% natural wool. No synthetic fibres. No machine production. One of a kind.

Symbolism

Izri — The Unbroken Line

  • The lozenge is among the most widely attested motifs in Amazigh textile art, often associated with the feminine, with protection, and with the continuity of life
  • The continuous grid — uninterrupted across colour fields — can be read as a symbol of resilience: what is essential persists through change
  • The cobalt blue is commonly associated in North African traditions with protection and spiritual clarity
  • The three-band composition — light, depth, light — recalls the structure of the Atlas landscape: snow, mountain, valley
  • In Amazigh oral poetry, the izri is never complete in isolation — it calls for a response. This rug operates the same way: the eye follows, and keeps following

The Line Never Breaks

The Line Never Breaks

Before the eye notices the colours, it follows the line.

It travels uninterrupted from ivory to cobalt, from light to shadow, never asking where one begins or the other ends.

The colour changes. The path does not.

The Line

In Amazigh oral tradition, an izri is a short poetic form — one verse calling for another, each line echoing the next. No izri stands alone. The form is built on continuation: what begins must be answered.

This rug is built the same way. The lozenge grid crosses the ivory field, enters the cobalt without pause, and emerges again into ivory below — as if the blue were simply a passage, and the line were something that predates colour itself.

Look at where the ivory meets the cobalt. The line does not stop. It does not adapt. It continues.

That is the subject of this rug.

The Blue

This cobalt is not decorative. It is a presence. Close to Klein. Close to Majorelle. Close to the sky above the High Atlas at the hour when the mountains turn violet and the valleys fill with shadow.

It is the kind of blue that makes ivory look like light.

The Weaver

Hand-knotted in the High Atlas, Morocco, by a single Amazigh weaver working in the Beni Ourain tradition. The scale — 227 × 152 cm — required weeks of sustained work, each knot placed by hand, each row of the lozenge grid maintained across the transition from ivory to cobalt and back.

The regularity of the line across the colour change is not accidental. It is the mark of mastery.

Collector’s Note

We selected Izri because it holds two contradictory qualities simultaneously. It is bold — the cobalt commands the room. And it is quiet — the line asks to be followed slowly, carefully, all the way to the end.

It is one of the most visually resolved pieces in our collection. The kind of rug that looks inevitable — as if it could not have been made any other way.

Only the colour changes.

Never the path.

More Than a Store

Moroccan Corridor was not created to sell Moroccan products. It was created to preserve, celebrate, and share the remarkable craftsmanship traditions that have shaped Morocco for centuries.

Every object we present begins long before it reaches a home. It begins with a material, a place, a workshop, and the hands of an artisan whose knowledge has often been passed down through generations.

Our role is simple: To identify exceptional craftsmanship and bring it to those who value authenticity, beauty, and cultural heritage.

We do not manufacture. We do not mass-produce.

We select.
