This item is featured in: Ethnic Pillows from House of Pillows Gallery

Ethically crafted from natural wool, fibers and dyes, each of these woven pillow covers represents days of work and generations of skill passed from mother to daughter. Just outside of Marrakech, a remarkable group of women transform wool and the natural fibers of desert agave into beautiful silken thread using time-honored methods. The hand-spun thread is then masterfully woven on family looms and embroidered with traditional motifs.

    More Than a Store

Moroccan Corridor was not created to sell Moroccan products. It was created to preserve, celebrate, and share the remarkable craftsmanship traditions that have shaped Morocco for centuries.

Every object we present begins long before it reaches a home. It begins with a material, a place, a workshop, and the hands of an artisan whose knowledge has often been passed down through generations.

Our role is simple: To identify exceptional craftsmanship and bring it to those who value authenticity, beauty, and cultural heritage.

We do not manufacture. We do not mass-produce.

    We select.

    The Silk of the Sahara

    The Silk of the Sahara

    Born from the Desert

In the vast stretches of Morocco's Saharan south, wild agave cactus grows without cultivation — untamed, resilient, and extraordinarily generous. It is from these spiky leaves that Sabra silk begins its journey. Harvested by hand, hammered, and soaked until their fibres surrender, the plant yields a lustrous, lightweight silk unlike anything produced by machine or factory.

The Colour of Nothing — and Everything

Lalla Fatiha White is the rarest expression of Sabra silk: undyed. Where other colourways pass through the dyeing process, this cushion is left in its most honest state — the natural ivory-white of the cactus fibre itself. No pigment is added. No colour is imposed. What you see is the raw material, exactly as it emerged from the plant. In a world of saturated colour, this restraint is its own kind of luxury.

    Woven in the High Atlas

Once spun and prepared, the undyed cactus silk yarn is blended with natural camel wool and handwoven on a traditional wooden loom by Berber artisans in the High Atlas Mountains. The weave is tight, the rhythm unhurried. This is not production. It is practice — a skill passed from mother to daughter across generations, unchanged for centuries.

    The Motifs Speak

The geometric diamond patterns embroidered across this cushion are not decorative choices. They are a language. In Berber tradition, these symbols — lozenges, chevrons, and interlocking lines — carry meaning: protection, fertility, the eye that wards off harm. Against the white ground, the embroidery reads with particular clarity — each stitch deliberate, each motif singular. No two Sabra cushions are ever exactly alike. Yours is, in the truest sense, one of a kind.

    Why Sabra?

Sabra cactus silk is one of the most sustainable natural fibres in the world. The agave plant requires no irrigation, no pesticides, and regenerates naturally after harvest. The undyed Huyam White colourway takes this a step further — zero dye, zero chemical treatment, pure fibre. Choosing Sabra is choosing a material that gives back to the land it comes from, and to the communities of artisans who have worked with it for centuries.

    Object Origin

    Craft City Marrakesh
Material Saharan agave cactus (Sabra/cactus silk) harvested from sustainable wild plants across the Moroccan Sahara, combined with natural camel wool. Left undyed or treated with minimal natural whitening agents to preserve the fibre's raw, luminous tone.
Construction The agave cactus leaves are harvested, hammered, and soaked to release long natural fibres. These are hand-spun into cactus silk yarn, then combined with camel wool and handwoven on a traditional loom to produce the kilim-style base fabric. The cushion cover is cut to size (approx. 20" x 18"), hand-embroidered with Berber geometric motifs, and finished with a hand-sewn interlaced fringe and corner tassels. A sturdy zip closure is sewn along the bottom edge.

    Frequently Asked Questions

Sabra silk, also known as cactus silk or vegetable silk, is a luxurious natural fiber handwoven by Moroccan artisans from the Aloe Vera cactus plant. It's prized for its soft texture, natural sheen, and vibrant colors.
We recommend dry cleaning only for Sabra silk cushion covers to preserve the natural fibers and vibrant colors. Avoid machine washing or hand washing, as water can damage the delicate fibers and cause colors to bleed.
For minor spots, gently blot (do not rub) with a clean, dry cloth. If necessary, use a slightly damp cloth with cold water only, then immediately blot dry. Always test on an inconspicuous area first.
Keep away from direct sunlight to prevent fading. Rotate cushions regularly to ensure even wear. Fluff and reshape pillows periodically. Use pillow inserts to maintain shape and structure. Store in a cool, dry place when not in use.
While our Sabra silk is dyed using traditional methods, some color variation and slight fading over time is natural and adds to the authentic, handcrafted character. Avoid exposure to moisture and direct sunlight to minimize color changes.
If ironing is necessary, use the lowest heat setting and always iron on the reverse side with a pressing cloth between the iron and fabric. Never use steam, as moisture can damage the fibers.
Never machine wash or hand wash. Avoid bleach and harsh chemicals. Don't wring or twist the fabric. Keep away from excessive moisture and humidity. Avoid direct contact with rough surfaces that may snag the fibers.
With proper care, your handcrafted Sabra silk cushions can last for many years. The natural durability of the fiber, combined with gentle handling and appropriate cleaning, ensures these artisan pieces remain beautiful heirlooms.
Each Sabra silk piece is entirely handwoven by Moroccan artisans using traditional techniques passed down through generations. The natural fiber is eco-friendly, sustainable, and biodegradable, making it both a luxurious and environmentally conscious choice.
