The Collection

A pillow should tell
a story.

Every cushion in the House of Pillows is made by hand in Morocco — woven on traditional looms, hand-dyed with natural pigments, embossed with centuries-old geometric motifs, or finished with the lustrous sheen of sabra cactus silk. No two pieces are identical. Each one carries the mark of the artisan who made it.

From the bold geometric patterns of Berber ethnic pillows to the playful texture of pom pom covers, the refined luxury of sabra silk cushions, and the artisanal precision of hand-embossed leather pillows — this is Morocco's decorative tradition, distilled into a single object.

The Materials

What makes a Moroccan cushion
01 Sabra Cactus Silk Extracted from the Agave sisalana plant and hand-spun by Berber artisans, sabra silk produces a lustrous, semi-transparent fabric — entirely plant-based, vegan, and unlike anything else.
02 Hand-spun Berber Wool Sourced from Atlas Mountain sheep and hand-spun by Berber weavers, this wool is the foundation of our ethnic pillows, pom pom covers, and striped cushions. Dense, warm, and naturally durable.
03 Vegetable-tanned Leather Full-grain leather tanned using natural plant extracts in the workshops of Fez, then hand-embossed with arabesque and geometric patterns by master craftsmen. Each leather pillow is a unique object.
04 Brocade & Embroidery The rich silk brocade and hand-embroidered fabrics of the traditional Moroccan salon — woven on Jacquard looms in jewel tones and finished with intricate needlework by artisan cooperatives.
05 Natural Dyes Saffron, indigo, poppy, henna, and mint — the same natural dye palette used in Moroccan craft for over a millennium. Colours that deepen and evolve with age rather than fade.
Material Story

The Silk That
Grows in Morocco.

Sabra silk — also called cactus silk or agave silk — is one of Morocco's most distinctive craft materials. Extracted from the leaves of the Agave sisalana plant, hand-spun into thread, and hand-dyed in the colours of the Moroccan landscape, it produces a fabric with a natural lustre that no synthetic material can replicate.

Every sabra silk cushion in our collection is made by Berber artisans using techniques passed down through generations. Plant-based, vegan, and entirely handmade.

The Craft of Fez

Leather Embossed
by Hand.

In the ancient medina of Fez, master craftsmen — the maalems — press geometric and arabesque patterns into full-grain vegetable-tanned leather using traditional metal stamps. Each impression is made by hand, one at a time. No two leather pillows are identical.

The leather is sourced from the Chouara tannery, one of the oldest in the world, operating continuously since the 11th century.

Interior Guide

How to Style Moroccan
Cushions.

01 The Rule of Odd Numbers Style cushions in groups of 3, 5, or 7 — odd numbers create visual tension and feel more natural than even arrangements. Mix one large, one medium, one small.
02 Mix Textures, Not Just Colours Pair a sabra silk cushion with a pom pom cover and a Berber geometric pillow. The contrast of textures — silk, wool, knot — is more interesting than matching colours.
03 Anchor with a Neutral Start with one or two neutral cushions — ivory, natural wool, or undyed leather — then layer in colour. Our solid colour covers and striped pillows work perfectly as anchors.
04 Use a Combo Set Not sure where to start? Our pillow combos are pre-curated by our team — complementary styles, textures, and colours that work together out of the box.
05 Go Oversized on the Floor Layer oversized cushion covers directly on a Berber rug for a low Moroccan salon feel — perfect for reading corners, meditation spaces, or children's rooms.
Questions & Answers

Frequently Asked Questions

Moroccan decorative pillows are made from a range of natural materials: hand-spun Berber wool (ethnic, pom pom, striped styles), sabra cactus silk extracted from the Agave sisalana plant (sabra silk cushions), full-grain vegetable-tanned leather from Fez (leather pillows), and silk brocade with hand embroidery (salon pillows). All materials are natural, sustainably sourced, and hand-worked by Moroccan artisans.

A Moroccan pom pom pillow is a cushion cover decorated with large hand-knotted wool pompons along its edges or surface. The pompons are made from natural hand-spun wool and are a traditional Moroccan craft element. They come in natural ivory, striped, and multicolour finishes. Each pom pom is tied by hand, making every cover slightly unique.

Sabra silk (also called cactus silk or agave silk) is a natural fibre extracted from the Agave sisalana plant, which grows abundantly in Morocco. It is hand-spun and hand-dyed by Berber artisans, producing a lustrous, semi-transparent fabric with a texture similar to silk but entirely plant-based and vegan. It is used in Moroccan cushions because of its natural sheen, vibrant dye absorption, and the centuries-old tradition of its production in Morocco.

Start with your interior's dominant tone: for neutral Scandinavian or minimalist spaces, choose natural wool ethnic pillows or ivory pom pom covers. For maximalist or bohemian interiors, layer sabra silk cushions in jewel tones with tassel pillows. For a contemporary luxury look, leather pillows in cognac or caramel add a refined artisanal accent. Our pillow combos are pre-curated to take the guesswork out of mixing styles.

Most of our Moroccan cushion covers are sold as covers only (without inserts), which significantly reduces shipping cost and volume. Standard insert sizes are noted on each product page. We recommend using a slightly oversized insert for a fuller, more luxurious look — for example, a 50cm insert in a 45cm cover.

Wool and sabra silk covers: hand wash cold or gentle machine wash at 30°C, lay flat to dry, do not tumble dry. Leather covers: spot clean with a damp cloth, condition with natural leather conditioner every 6–12 months, keep away from direct sunlight. Brocade and embroidered covers: dry clean recommended to preserve the embroidery and fabric structure.
