Orange gives Fayrouz its presence; the stitching gives it its rhythm. A pale rectangle gathers the composition at the centre, branching forms extend above and below, and four small crosses answer one another near the corners. Between them, open stretches of woven colour allow the eye to rest.
The Hand
This hand-loomed Moroccan cushion rewards a closer look. Small shifts in the weave and the spacing of the embroidery give the surface a rhythm that is not mechanically uniform. At each corner, a modest tied tassel brings the textile to a quiet finish. These are details to notice, not imperfections to disguise.
The Geometry
The embroidery holds a balance between centre and edge. Its shapes belong to the visual language of geometric Moroccan textiles, but appearance alone cannot establish a motif’s meaning or its maker’s intention. Here, we read the arrangement rather than assign a fixed message: a defined centre, repeated corner forms, and a fine boundary around an open field of colour.
Collector’s Note
We are drawn to the tension between a warm palette and a restrained composition. The pale thread lightens the orange without interrupting it. Beside natural linen, dark timber, or chalky plaster, Fayrouz offers a concentrated note of warmth while leaving the room space to breathe.
Warmth in the colour. Quiet in the detail.
