There is a silk that grows in the desert.

Sabra — known as cactus silk — is drawn from the spiky leaves of the Saharan agave plant. The leaves are harvested by hand, hammered, and soaked until their fibres release. Those fibres are then hand-spun using techniques passed down through generations of Moroccan artisans, woven on a loom, and cut into cushion covers that carry the warmth and texture of the land they came from.

Fayrouz Sabra pillow is woven in a vivid emerald green — a colour that commands attention without effort. Across its surface, gold and red Berber symbols are hand-embroidered: four star-shaped corner motifs drawn from Morocco’s High Atlas Mountains, and a central double-diamond that has marked Moroccan textiles for centuries. The edges are finished with a hand-sewn decorative border stitch and a small tassel at each corner.

No two pieces are identical. The variations in colour, motif placement, and texture are not imperfections — they are the signature of the hand that made it.

Material Saharan agave cactus (Sabra/cactus silk) harvested from sustainable wild plants across the Moroccan Sahara, combined with natural camel wool. Left undyed or treated with minimal natural whitening agents to preserve the fibre's raw, luminous tone.

Construction The agave cactus leaves are harvested, hammered, and soaked to release long natural fibres. These are hand-spun into cactus silk yarn, then combined with camel wool and handwoven on a traditional loom to produce the kilim-style base fabric. The cushion cover is cut to size (approx. 20" x 18"), hand-embroidered with Berber geometric motifs, and finished with a hand-sewn interlaced fringe and corner tassels. A sturdy zip closure is sewn along the bottom edge.

We recommend dry cleaning only for Sabra silk cushion covers to preserve the natural fibers and vibrant colors. Avoid machine washing or hand washing, as water can damage the delicate fibers and cause colors to bleed.
