Vintage Moroccan Cactus Silk Sabra Pillows

This unique Moroccan pillow is hand loomed and hand dyed. The fabric is commonly known as "cactus silk" or "sabra silk".

Spiky leaves from sustainable Saharan agave cactus are harvested, hammered and then soaked to release fibers. The fibers are then hand spun using traditional processes to make cactus silk. The silk is then combined with camel wool and handwoven on a loom to make cactus silk rugs that in turn are made into these vintage cushion covers.

The pillow features ancient symbolic Berber motifs from Morocco’s High Atlas Mountains. and has a Hand sown interlaced fringe with a tassel on each corner.

Each piece has a unique intricate embroidered design, and no two will every be exactly the same!

Size approx 36" x 21" in (92 x 53 cm)

Design tip: consider these pillows a neutral and pair them with more patterned 20"x20" pillows!

Sturdy zip closure runs along bottom side

Insert not included.

    The Silk of the Sahara

    Object Origin

    Craft City Marrakesh
Material Saharan agave cactus (Sabra/cactus silk) harvested from sustainable wild plants across the Moroccan Sahara, combined with natural camel wool. Left undyed or treated with minimal natural whitening agents to preserve the fibre's raw, luminous tone.
Construction The agave cactus leaves are harvested, hammered, and soaked to release long natural fibres. These are hand-spun into cactus silk yarn, then combined with camel wool and handwoven on a traditional loom to produce the kilim-style base fabric. The cushion cover is cut to size (approx. 20" x 18"), hand-embroidered with Berber geometric motifs, and finished with a hand-sewn interlaced fringe and corner tassels. A sturdy zip closure is sewn along the bottom edge.

This item is featured in: Ethnic Pillows from House of Pillows Gallery

Ethically crafted from natural wool, fibers and dyes, each of these woven pillow covers represents days of work and generations of skill passed from mother to daughter. Just outside of Marrakech, a remarkable group of women transform wool and the natural fibers of desert agave into beautiful silken thread using time-honored methods. The hand-spun thread is then masterfully woven on family looms and embroidered with traditional motifs.

    More Than a Store

Moroccan Corridor was not created to sell Moroccan products. It was created to preserve, celebrate, and share the remarkable craftsmanship traditions that have shaped Morocco for centuries.

Every object we present begins long before it reaches a home. It begins with a material, a place, a workshop, and the hands of an artisan whose knowledge has often been passed down through generations.

Our role is simple: To identify exceptional craftsmanship and bring it to those who value authenticity, beauty, and cultural heritage.

We do not manufacture. We do not mass-produce.

    We select.
