Pillow Cover Sizing Guide

The right pillow cover can transform a room. The wrong size can ruin it. Whether you have a cushion cover and need an insert, or an insert and need a cover, this guide will help you find the perfect fit — for beautifully plump, well-proportioned pillows every time.

At Moroccan Corridor, our pillow covers are handwoven on age-tested wooden looms in Morocco using techniques passed down for generations. Because they are crafted from natural, often heavyweight textiles — Handira wool, Berber kilim, sabra silk — understanding how fabric weight affects sizing is especially important. This guide accounts for both standard and heavyweight fabrics.

Pillow Cover Sizing Chart

Pillow covers are intentionally made slightly smaller than the insert to ensure a full, plump appearance. Use the chart below to match your insert size to the correct cover size. All measurements are approximate — please allow for ±3% tolerance.

Sizing by Furniture Type

Not sure where to start? Use this guide as a starting point based on your furniture. When in doubt, size up — a fuller pillow always looks more luxurious than an understuffed one.

Loveseat (2-seat) or low-profile sofa 18×18 in / 46×46 cm insert (17×17 in / 43×43 cm cover) or 20×20 in / 51×51 cm insert (19×19 in / 48×48 cm cover)
Full size 3-seat sofa 22×22 in / 56×56 cm insert (20.5×20.5 in / 52×52 cm cover) or 24×24 in / 61×61 cm insert (22×22 in / 56×56 cm cover)
Single chair (small–medium) 12×20 in / 30×51 cm insert or 14×20 in / 36×51 cm insert
Single chair (large) 12×24 in / 30×61 cm insert or 14×26 in / 36×66 cm insert
Large sectional sofa Mix of 22×22 in / 56×56 cm and 24×24 in / 61×61 cm square covers, with rectangular sizes added for visual interest
Full size bed Two 26×26 in / 66×66 cm or 28×28 in / 71×71 cm inserts across the headboard, plus one long 14×36 in / 36×91 cm insert to finish
Queen size bed Three 26×26 in / 66×66 cm inserts across the headboard, plus one 14×36 in / 36×91 cm long insert
King size bed Three 28×28 in / 71×71 cm inserts across the headboard, plus one 14×36 in / 36×91 cm long insert
Small bench, reading nook, or accent grouping 16×16 in / 41×41 cm insert or 12×18 in / 30×46 cm insert
Note: These smaller sizes are decorative and generally too small to provide functional back support for adults.

How to Style Moroccan Pillows Like a Designer

The right size is only the beginning. Here is how to arrange your pillows for a result that feels considered, layered, and alive.

Mix textures, not just colours

The most compelling pillow arrangements combine different textile traditions. Pair a flat-woven Berber kilim cover with a tufted Handira wool cover and a smooth sabra silk accent. The contrast in texture creates depth that colour alone cannot achieve.

Work in odd numbers

Three or five pillows always look more natural than two or four. On a sofa, try two large squares flanking one rectangular lumbar. On a bed, three squares across the headboard with one long lumbar in front is a classic arrangement that never fails.

Vary the scale

Combine at least two different sizes in any grouping. A 24×24 in / 61×61 cm square paired with a 14×26 in / 36×66 cm lumbar creates visual rhythm. Avoid using all the same size — it reads as flat and unintentional.

Let one piece lead

Choose one statement pillow — a bold Handira with sequin detailing, or a graphic Azilal kilim — and build the rest of the arrangement around it in quieter tones and simpler patterns. The statement piece anchors the composition; the others give it room to breathe.

Don't overstuff the sofa

More is not always more. On a standard 3-seat sofa, three to five pillows is the sweet spot. Beyond that, you lose seating space and the arrangement starts to look cluttered rather than curated.

The House of Pillows — Handcrafted in Morocco

Every pillow cover in the Moroccan Corridor collection is made by hand in Morocco, on wooden looms using techniques that have been refined over centuries. No two pieces are identical — the slight variations in weave, colour, and pattern are the mark of authentic handcraft, not imperfection.

Our collection spans three distinct textile traditions:

Handira — woven by Berber women of the Middle Atlas as wedding blankets, Handira fabric is characterised by its ivory wool ground, sequin embellishments, and irregular texture. As a pillow cover, it brings warmth, history, and quiet luxury to any interior.

Berber Kilim — flat-woven on traditional looms, kilim covers feature bold geometric patterns in earthy reds, ochres, and indigos. Each pattern carries the visual language of the tribe and region that produced it.

Moroccan Rug Pillows — crafted from sections of authentic Moroccan rugs, these covers bring the full richness of Moroccan pile weaving to your sofa or bed. Dense, tactile, and deeply patterned.
